Roundup 25 June: The Miltones, Boycrush, Perfume Genius & more

25th Jun 2018

Kia ora whanau! It's been a few weeks - hopefully you didn't miss me too bad! I've had a bit of a well-needed holiday - back and feeling much better! Here's a summary of what we've missed:

The Miltones - Disappear

This one has been sitting in drafts cos it came to me so far ahead of its public release, and it feels like I've been waiting so long to share it! It's a gorgeous tune, and the first since their debut which was very well received. It's a sweet little ballad and definitely worth a listen.

Boycrush - Face Melt

The latest single from Boycrush's new album, Desperate Late Night Energy, out a few weeks back! I've been really digging the lead up to this album and am very excited to hear it (spoiler: I am writing this from the past)

Jess Sah Bi & Peter One - Apartheid

This is a reissue from the 80s - a track from their debut album, released in 1985. Honestly, it's so good, "a lush fusion of traditional Ivorian village songs and American and English country and folk-rock music". Have a listen and check out the info on their bandcamp, cos it's fascinating.

Neil & Liam Finn - Back to Life

Like so many New Zealanders I'm a sucker for the Finns... but I feel like this one is well deserved? I'm always fascinated by how they maintain such a consistent but ever-evolving sound and this is a perfect example! I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays out!

Perfume Genius - Slip Away (Mura Masa Remix)

Perfume Genius is one of my faves, this tune in particular - something about the vocal effects just really gets right to me in ways I can't describe? So I was super excited to see this remix come up on my feeds!

Fanau Spa - Glitch

I'm still so excited about Fanau Spa. This is the second release from them and it's just as good - this one a little grittier maybe.

IllBAZ, MELODOWNZ, RAIZA BIZA (nz) - Live Stream (feat. TEEKS)

Another new NZ rap combo I'm very excited about - I've been a fan of Raiza for a while, and Melodownz' AVONTALES was so so good.

Another neat thing - the crew at Neck of the Woods in Auckland put together this fantastic NZ Music Month playlist that I really recommend you get your hands into:
